Rajshahi University (RU) vice-chancellor and other higher officials yesterday had Iftar with Mahbub Alam Salehi, one of the accused in Geology and Mining Department teacher Prof Taher Ahmed murder case.
The Iftar party was organised at the central cafeteria by Islami Chhatra Shibir RU unit with Salehi in the chair.
Pro-VC Prof Mamunul Keramat, Treasurer Prof Abdul Jabbar Khan, central Shibir President Shafiqul Islam Masud and Publication Secretary Rezaul Karim attended the Iftar party.
VC Prof Altaf Hossain lauded the activity of the Shibir on the campus terming it a 'disciplined' organisation.
An adverse reaction has been created among the teachers, students and staffs on the campus following the Iftar party.
Bangladesh Chhatra League RU unit President Ibrahim Hossian Moon, General Secretary Ayen Uddin, Chhatra Front President Susanta Sinha and Chhatra Union General Secretary S Promthes Shil in a joint statement condemned the university authorities for attending the Iftar party.
They said cooperation for trial of the killers of Prof Taher, Prof Yunus and others cann't be expected as it is helping the killers.
Despite repeated attempts, the VC could not be contacted for his comment.
