Nazmul Haider, former employee of BD Foods, was shown arrested in a fresh case filled against him while a Dhaka court placed him on a seven-day remand yesterday.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) produced him before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, Dhaka on completion of his two-day remand in connection with the smuggling of 21.5 kg of heroin.
The CID submitted a petition showing him arrested in the new case filed with Motijheel Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act and prayed for a 10-day remand.
In the forwarding letter, the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case said important clues would be retrieved from him regarding the smuggling of heroin if he is interrogated.
CID arrested Nazmul from his home at Shantinagar in the capital on Thursday night for his alleged involvement in smuggling.
On Friday, the CID filed a case against two food companies, Emdad Trading and Jamil International, in connection with their alleged involvement in heroin smuggling to United Kingdom (UK).
Complaints against five companies were received from the UK authorities earlier. The companies were King and Company, Emdad Trading, MM Enterprise, Jamil International and Green Haven.
